Hi there,

I've been prescribed Tegretal by my Neuro, but have heard that it can make you incredibly sleepy.  My fatigue is currently a worse symptom than my sensory and pain symptoms so am not planning on taking the Tegretal....good or bad idea????

Hey Kas

Well before NOT taking it, i'd discuss it with the doc who gave it to u. If u'r fatigue is that bad, then maybe u'r doc would have another med that would suite u better. Also, maybe at that time discuss something for the fatigue as well. At least let the doc know u'r plans and why...give him a place to start and heads up in case more develops in time. I don't like to take meds that make me sleepy either and so i take them "as needed", but my doc is aware of that and as long as it helps enuf when i do take it, he's fine with that. Just keep everyone on the same page. I hope u get some help with this soon and without the extra sleepiness! Take care and let us know how u are and what u decide to do.

Kas,

Do you have seizures? Do you have Trigeminal Neuralgia?

I work with a lot of people who take Tegretal but it is for seizures or behavior control. I take care of the profound mentally disabled. I would definitely be calling the doc!

Hi Lysha,

wow....I certainly don't have a profound mental disability....the Neuro did say that it was usually an Epileptic med, but that it would help my "tooth ache" limb pain, and burning sensations etc.  Will talk to him again.

Thanks for the reply!

Kas
