I met with the NP at my MS Specialist's office this afternoon for a check up. She's really great and a lot easier to talk to than the neurologist and more
open with information, though the neurologist is great too.
Anyway, we discussed my medications and how well the valium is working for my dizziness. She left me on that, along with the Wellbutrin, which is helping the fatigue. She did another neuro exam which was about the same as the last one. My left leg is markedly weaker than my right, and my reflexes in that leg are hyperactive.
She then told me that I do have a lot of MS symptoms, and there are some abnormalities on my neuro exam consistent with MS, but that there currently isn't anything showing on my MRIs or on the LP I had back in October. She told me that the neurologist will most likely order another MRI in six months to check for lesions. She also explained that sometimes it takes a while to diagnose MS and other neurological problems, but that she feels that eventually something will show up. I was glad that my husband was there with me, because I think he finally realizes that there is something legitimately wrong, and it's not just in my head.
Oh, and my blood pressure was too high while I was there, even though I took my blood pressure meds this morning. She checked it four times over the half hour of my appointment, then had two other nurses come in and check it and it was around 160/108. They tried to call my family doctor, but couldn't reach him, so they told me just to check with him tomorrow morning.
Anyway, I think it was a very productive appointment. Of course, now I don't see the MS specialist again until September and my family doctor is wanting to send me to Mayo soon, so we'll see how that goes.
