I had a sleep study done 2 weeks ago. I didn't say anything because I was hoping that Narcolepsy might explain what is going on with me and I didn't want to get my hopes too high that it was just Narcolepsy.

I got the results back today and I don't have Narcolepsy or apnea or any other sleep problem. I am classified with "Extreme daytime fatigue and sleepiness of unknown origin". The nurse told me she was really hoping that it was sleep apnea as it is easily fixed or even narcolepsy. She told me that it ruled in MS even more. I have a follow up with the neuro on April 2nd. The nurse thinks he will probably schedule another MRI. It has been a little over a year since my last one and it would be their hope that I would finally have lesions show up.

I know this is a long journey and I think my time in limbo land is about to end. I can't really think of anything else they could "rule out".

Does anyone know of a path I haven't taken?

Thanks so much!!

Lysha

Hey Lysha

Awww friend....i'm sorry. Test, test, test and yet another test...still no answers. I guess the good thing is that at least u know what u DON"T have...tho that's a hollow bit of info. I know u...u don't want it to be ms, but u do want to know what it IS. I can't think of anything u've missed in all the testing. Take heart in knowing u've eliminated much and hopefully u're on u'r way soon to answers. I really am glad u don't have any sleep probs, but as u said it'd be so much easier to have that INSTEAD of ms or any other cronic illness. My prayers are with u friend (always will be). We'll just keep each other company in limbo land for now and hopefully soon u can use the yacht on u'r move.

I'm sorry you didn't get the results you wanted. I hope your neuro has some ideas for you to pursue.

Hi Lysha,

Thanks for the update and I'm sorry it didn't turn out to be narcolepsy or even apnea!  Good luck with your appointment next month and I really do hope you get some answers soon.

I have the same deal. I have had severe day time fatigue for years and have taken a sleep study test. It actually turned out completely normal too. I also thought I had narcolepsy for the longest time. I know how you feel about not knowing, however, I don't think you would want to wish to just have narcolepsy or sleep apnea because those can also be quite debilitating (and even deadly in certain cases). Also, you definitely shouldn't hope to find lesions as that would also be aweful. I was wondering, besides the daytime fatigue have you suffered from any other symptoms. I would be interested in your story because I also have not been diagnosed with anything even though I have had several neurological symptoms for over 10 years and every test has turned out negative. If it happens to be MS though all you could do then is treat the symptoms. I take adderal and wellbutrin and that really helps to get me through the day without being exhausted and without them I feel useless. You might want to look into those. I hope this helps and please let me know what you find out.
