Hey Everyone

Sorry, i'm sure we've discussed this before, but as usual my memory is not serving me. So...for everyones's aggrivation...i'll start new here!

Lately i'm having some pretty bad pains in various places. Pains that are bad enuf that i stop and hold it (the painful spot) and hope it goes away FAST, tho it doesn't usually. This pain is sharp and bad. Shoots from one location thru to an ending point and then rests there...i mean the pain sits there...painfully! It doesn't really have a pattern in that it's always in my legs for example, but rather just any place. WOW...the pain is bad. Any info?? Please!!! sad   I have neurontin i can take for it if i know that's what i need to do, but at the same time, it makes me sleepy, so if i can get around using it during the day it'd be best. Thanks for any input u guys may have.

Hi Rhonda,

Wow I'm sorry, that sounds miserable.  It does sound a lot like the kind of nerve pain my husband gets sometimes.  It's never in the same place, shoots down from somewhere and settles for a while.  Sometimes it ends at some bizarre places too!  He doesn't take neurontin, so I can't tell you if that would help or not, but worth trying!  Do you take a large dose at night? Any chance of taking something smaller during the day?  Just a thought.

Wow Rhonda! You are having a heck of a week! I'm so sorry. I'm with Kimber on this one, can you 1/2 the neurontin pill and see how you do on 1/2 during the day?

Hey Everyone

Thanks for u'r replies. Well i take two pills at night and that's 200mg's IF needed. I can take one, but since i don't take it all the time i'm not sure how it'd do. Think i'll try it tomorrow. Thanks! I"m sure this will all clear up before my next appt. That's a quick cure to all my symptoms. :(

Rhonda,

Dear friend, I have these unusual sharp pains. I take Lyrica for it.... Not all the time. I dont mind a pain here and there couple times a day, but when it doesn't quit I take the Lyrica and it does wonders..

Just my 2 cents worth. LOL

Hey Bonnie!

Well that may be a med for me to ask about. The neurontin is in a capsule, so can't break it in half. I took one pill yesterday and it helped, but again i slept a fair amt during the day off and on. Not so certain it was just the pill tho. The night before i didn't sleep too much. That pain can get intense and if it doesn't ease up it's tough! Seems once it starts...and moreso in the afternoon...it gets worse n worse. Today is MUCH better tho...so maybe the pill did help. I"ll give it a little more time and bring this med up at my next appt. Thanks!!! U'r 2 cents are highly valuable!!

Rhonda, I've been getting these nerve pains too for almost a year now.  Sometimes they are worse than at other times.  They feel like someone has jabbed me with a hot needle, and as you said, the pain hangs there for a while.

I was taking nortriptyline(sp) for severl months, which worked really well, but it had other side effects that I couldn't handle.  (Currently, I'm not taking anything.)  You might try it though - it might work for you.

Also, I've read that neurontin only works if you take it on a regular basis, not just when you're having the pain.  It has to build up in your system to be effective, and usually the drowsiness is just a temporary side effect.  (My husband takes 2700 mg a day for peripheral neuropathy.)

I hope you get some relief soon.

Hugs,
