I was wondering if any of you have ever experience symptoms that came and went over a course of time but were not with you every single day.  The reason I ask is that sometimes I have symptoms that are always present, I recently had numb feet for 6 weeks straight, only knew I had feet because I could see them but not feel them.  That finally subsided and then my legs started giving me trouble.. I am now plagued with unpredictable bouts of weakiness, spasciity, pain, tingling, heaviness, vertigo, ataxia. The thing is that although these leg symptoms have been going on since February, daily, I get small periods of relief (hours, a day or so then it starts back)  So I may get up in the morning and feel okay, walking okay, balance okay and then by mid afternoon, all the aforementioned things start happening and will last anywhere from minutes to hours or a day or two then I may have a day when I don't feel all of them symptoms but some, and then a day when I don't have any at all (these are very rare) I generally experience pain and numbness, heavines, weakness every single day and have to use my cane regularly.

So my question is this... does it sound like MS to any of you. I even questioned my neuro and asked if it is possible that I have something else because I do have brief periods of relief.  He said withouth a doubt I have MS.  I just wanted to get some other input.  Does anyone else have brief "rest periods" from symptoms like I described?  Somedays I feel like I am going nutty.  Ok one moment, not okay the next.

Yes I do have brief relif from symptoms on and off and then I have HUGE flares and they don't go away. My understanding is that a flare is only a flare if it there for a couple of days. MS patients often have triggers that make their symptoms come out....heat is one. I nerves HATE heat and flip out in the heat. Also, exhaustion, I never slur my words but if I am tired no one can understand me... I don't know if that helped or not...hope it did!

What you describes sounds pretty typical to me!  Symptoms sometimes worsen through the day because you get tired, and fatigue will bring them on, sometimes they'll occur for no good reason.  People think that because the common kind of MS is called "relapsing-remitting" that they'll experience a complete absence of symptoms at time.  That is not the usual course of the disease; what you describe is much more common.

What you are describing sounds pretty common to me.  There are a lot of factors that change on a daily basis that might make things worse for a short time.   Things like stress, heat, pushing yourself too much, being over tired can all contribute.

Thank you all for your responses.  I feel a little more reassured.  I am newly diagnosed (8/06) so just didn't know and don't always get answers to my questions from my neuro.  Thanks again for taking the time to respond.
