I have been linked to this forum two times in my search for information about MS and finally became so curious that I registered.  I was admitted with my first attack of spasticity the friday before mothers day and was readmitted a week later.  luckily i had the same ER doc who ordered an MRI right away.  I was diagnosed within 2 wks of my first attack.  Yes i had all the tests to rule out other illnesses.  My MRI showed lesions on my brain and 2 sights on my spine.  one of the doctors was so surprised that i had not experienced symptoms until this point because she feels that I have had MS for a while considering 3 sights.  I must say I feel truly blessed for that.  I always tell my friends that MS is my gift of life.  In the past 12 months I left my husband, am raising my two daughters, went back to school for my masters and was diagnosed with MS, and worked two addtl jobs.  MS gave me balance and permission to stop being super mom and enjoy my life.  My question is this.  I was planning to get a tatoo of a phoenix to symbolize my making it through all of the changes that i have gone through but now i am kind of scared.  Any comments?

Glad to hear you are as brave as you are and rising from the ashes. I welcome you to the board and glad you are giving yourself permission to ease up a little. Your girls will love you anyway just because you are their Mom. Sorry I can't help you with the tatoo question but maybe others on this site can. Have you asked your doctor? That also may be the best place to start. Good luck and as I said welcome aboard. By the way I am a divorced mother of 4 adult children. It is not an easy life but it is do able. Dale

Hi 2cute4ms,
Glad you decided to join and welcome to the forum.  Goodness that's a lot to happen in a year but you seem to be handling it so well!  Pheonix tattoo huh?  That sounds wonderful!  I love the tats that have meaning to them and that certainly does.  I do agree with Dale and ask your doctor first and if you get the go ahead then have fun with it.

"La Vera Chapel had planned to get her 15th Elvis tattoo this year, until she was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

She already has "the three stages of Elvis - '56, '68 and '73" tattooed on her right arm, the gates of Graceland on her left forearm, a portrait of Elvis from Charro! above her right breast, and a bare-chested Elvis angel across her back, to name a few.

Each one is a souvenir of Memphis. They mark each of the 14 years the longtime Kmart employee and her husband, Donald, have come here from White Lake, Mich., for the annual Graceland candlelight vigil commemorating the Aug. 16, 1977, death of Elvis Aaron Presley.

But with multiple sclerosis, "The nerve endings, they tend to jump, and that's not good when you're getting a tattoo - 'Whoops, there goes Elvis's face!' " Chapel, 49, said Friday."

This came from a search for tattoos and MS. The line about nerve endings makes sense to me. So maybe, like real estate, t's all about location?
