Hey guys. This is Carlow's fiancee Ness. Sorry about the lack of updates before. I have my computer back and can fill you guys all in.

He's back in the hospital. He woke up this morning around 4:30 with a feeling like there was something in his J-pouch. Then, around 7:00 a.m., he told me to go tell him mum to call his doctor because he didn't think he'd be able to sit in a car for 30 minutes to make his post-op consult. So, we called and they said they'd have his doc get back to us. Yeah. Well, by 7:20 he was in screaming agony. We called an ambulance and they rushed him to the hospital. He was begging for pain medicine, anything to put him out of his misery. (He said he was a 10 on the pain scale -- and I believe him, from the sounds he was making.)

They kept him in the ER for most of the day. Eventually, they got his pain semi-under control, but then his heart rate spiked up to the 170s, so they decided not to move him.

Eventually, his doctor, through X-ray and CT scan, concluded he had a clot that was blocking the flow of blood and some kind of abscess near his pouch. They're giving him IV Heparin for the clot, and they're going to drain him in the morning. He's in the ICU now. When I left him, he was sleeping/ hallucinating peacefully, from the drugs. Thank God for them. For real.

Anyway, I just thought you guys would like to know. Any support you could send our way would be great. I know he turns to you guys a lot for advice. So thanks.

Hey all. It's Ness. Thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. They are very much appreciated.

Carlow's still in the ICU, but they hooked up his PCA last night and he's doing better. He's having a hard time separating his dreams from reality, but they say it's a side effect of his meds.

He's still hurting and his heart rate is still high, but every day he's showing progress.

I'm pretty tired, so bear with me with I've already said some of this stuff.

He's on antibiotics because the abscess was infected. Blood thinners (IV Heparin) for the clot in his portal vein. The ER nurse said there might be one in his lungs (hence the shortness of breath), but the treatment would be the same. When they CT him again, they'll check. His J-pouch is still good. The docs said none of this should affect that at all. He's got a drain for the abscess and one for the J-pouch.

I guess that's it for now. We're supposed to talk to his doctors today, so we'll know more then.

Ness,
Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry to hear about all of this! I'm glad you rushed him to the hospital and got him treated so quickly. That must've been so scary for you both. You are both in my thoughts and prayers. Thanks for keeping us updated on how he's doing.
Take care,

Hey all:

Thanks again for all your kindness.

Carlow was transfered out of the ICU today and into the Step Down Unit. He was also placed on the clear liquid diet and had a bit of Jello for breakfast and some chicken broth for dinner. His pain is less and his heart rate is down to the 90s.

That's all I know. Waiting for updates from his mom while I'm at work is frustrating.
