My husband had his reversal 2/1/08, 7 weeks ago.  He has constipation.  A week ago the nurse suggested clean out with Milk of Mag, which he did and cleaned out all night, then he was to take 2 Colace daily, but this has not totally worked.  He went a little a couple times.  I told him to try increasing the Colace, which he waited all week, but did today.  I think he should consult a GI.  Do you think that is the way to go?  Since his colon resection (the dr took about 10") on 9/5, he has seen only his surgeon.  A very good surgeon, but I wonder if a GI could help get his colon working.  I'd appreciate you input.  Thanks.

My dad had his ileostomy on Aug.2, 2007 and reversal on 2/7/08.  He is having a bit of constipation also, but has added spinach (he likes canned?) and is drinking prune juice...that seems to be helping.  He also has only seen his surgeon through this ordeal and they really have little info as far as eating etc.  they all suggest "whatever works for you".  He doesn't have a GI dr and I really don't understand why folks who go through this type of surgery aren't referred to a GI person.  He had 24 inches of his colon removed due to polyps that were concerous.  It's been a learning experience!
