My 65+ yr-old female friend would like a recommendation of what to wear to minimize ostomy-related embarassment as she "returns to the real world" for more diagnostic tests.
Her colostomy was in February & she says that her stomach is not flat, so getting adequate contact to prevent leakage is difficult.  She thought that some kind of plastic undergarment might help disguise any leaks that occurred.
Any recommendations that you might have to help her feel confident going out would be appreciated.  I told her to see an ostomy nurse for guidance, but they are only sending non-specialized rns for home visits.
Thanks for your help!

friend, she should b able to contact an ostomy nurse. she could make an appt with one at the hospital where her procedure was done. I dont know how many people here have actual "flat stomachs", so mayb its the way that she's applying it. Which once again would lead me to say she should be able to meet with an ostomy nurse. Edgepark i know for sure is a vendor that sells specialized undergarments but i'm pretty sure theyr not the only ones. I hope someone else comes along with help, and i hope she finds relief soon

It shouldn't matter that her stomach isn't flat. Mine isn't either anymore! I'd worry less about finding a garment to cover up any leaks, and more about why she's leaking in the first place. It could be as simple as adding a convex insert or using paste or Eakin seals to prevent any leakage. I had a lot of leaks in the beginning as well, but haven't had a leak in public in almost 20 years! Adding a convex insert and using paste did the trick for me. But, there are a lot of other options, and I'm sure others here will follow with their recommendations.
