since our food goes through us so fast, do we get as many calories from stuff?  like if we eat something that has 100 calories, do we get 100 calories?

Nah, I think it must multiply - for me, if something has 100 calories, I end up with 1000 calories for some reason after eating it!

I have had an ileostomy for 32 years now due to UC.

With an ostomy or a jpouch calorie absorbption should not be compromised and yes, if you consume 100 calories you will absorb 100 calories. The absorbption of calories takes place in the terminal ileum and it doesn't matter how quick your transit time is you will absorb all calories ingested.

But, if you have had your terminal ileum removed, like in my case due to CD, calorie absorption can be an issue. Same thing with absorbing B12.
