I'm new to the board and wondered if anyone has dealt with pyoderma. I was diagnosed with Crohn's in 1990 and had my entire large intestine removed in 1999 and now have a permanent ileostomy. I have been symptom free/drug free until this February. I noticed a small ulcer near my stoma which the DR thought was a fistula. He did an ileoscope and CT scan which were both negative for active disease in the small intestine. By this time, another ulcer formed and grew into the original one. He finally said it was pyoderma gangrenosum and started me on Humira, which I started this past friday.
My wear time used to be 5-7 days and now I'm lucky to get 3 days without the
infection breaking the seal.
Has anyone else had this problem? How long does it take to go away? I've read anything from a month to a year.

Oh yes, I've have this more than once! It is terrible! It can take a long time. Mine took months(first time)--over a year for the second time around. Generally, once your flare is under control then it will go away. I have gone to a dermatologist before to help it out b/c we couldn't get my crohn's to calm down. It helped a little bit; and as painful as pyoderma can be, every little bit helps. Have you been treating it with anything topical? Are you packing it? I hope yours goes away quickly.
