Hi everyone..This past weekend I experienced terrible sharp pain and a spasms in the same area. It is just to the lower, right of where my stoma. I am just a little over two weeks post surgery. I know that I will still experience pain at this time, but this sharp pain and the spasms are new since the surgery. I was wondering if anyone else has experineced this. I am going to call my doctor about it. But hearing from someone that has had this would help me out too. Thanks! HisWill

I would say they're gas pains. Hopefully, they should subside soon for you.

Feel well soon.
I have had an ileostomy for 32 years now due to UC.

Wow! So this is gas pains? I guess I had better start using that GasX because the pain is very hard to handle. Thanks for your help. HisWill

Oh yeah, I remember those post-surgery gas pains well, and they were the worst! I'm sorry you're having them. sad I hope the Gas-X helps and try to avoid any foods that are known to cause gas (like onions, cabbage, beans, broccoli, etc.) and carbonated beverages. Hope you feel better soon!

the best thing to do with the gas-x is take it as kind of a prevention. After you have had your ileo a while longer you won't get nearly the trouble with gas. But i always take two gas-x if i am going somewhere, and it seems to keep the gas at bay

Thanks for your responses..so this gets better? I mean the gas pains. I am eating very bland and trying to add foods a little at a time. I had some chicken soup with carrots and the carrots were all collected around my stoma! and in the bag. They soup had only small pieces of carrots so I was surprised that I didnt digest it. I have to get used to which foods cause problems for me such as gas and digesting. But its only been a few weeks so I am sure I will adjust. thanks again everyone..you are all awesome.. I dont know what I would do without this group! Love you all..Marie

yes the gas does get much better! you will still get it with some things, i ate two bowls of frosted flakes the other day, well two in one day, and i had horrible gas! but that doesn't always happen with frosted flakes, just that one time. Carrots never digest, no matter how small they are, i just don't eat them, cause it is so gross, lol.
you will see that some things look hte same going out as they do going in, after a while it's not nearly as gross as it starts out.
