I recently started a new job and have health insurance coverage with Blue Cross Blue Shield. Do any of you know if they cover the cost of supplies?

When I was with Aetna, they had a contract with Sterling Medical to pay 100%. I was wondering if BCBS has the same deal with another medical supply company?

Cecilia,

I have "Highmark" BCBS, (I think there are a few slightly different BCBS programs) and they have covered everything 100%, and allowed me to just call the supplier and get extra things I wanted but may not have "needed," like stoma caps, odor drops, etc.

Most BCBS programs are very good--I really hope that they cover you 100%!! :-)

Also, you can call the number on the back of the card (if you got your new card yet) and they can tell you right away.

I have Blue Choice Preferred Plus (whatever that's supposed to mean). It covers 70% of supplies, but I met my $1000 out of pocket months ago so they are paying 100% now. New year starts July 1 for me and they have tripled the out of pocket. I made sure to order yesterday so as not to miss that last 100% pay.

The best thing to do is to call your insurance and ask, although you can't always depend on it. If they take you as contracted, then anything not covered is written off, and you are only responsible for deductible, co pay or co insurance

Hi - I've had BCBS in the past and they were very good all the way around.  The amount they will cover depends on the contract your employer has with them for their employee group plan.  It really doesn't matteer who the insuring company is, but rather what the employer elects as plan coverage, etc.  Hope it works out for you!
