Am having trouble with the gym. Am trying to keep at the gym but the stoma is interfering. Have had it since March, and it hurts, especially when jumping (skipping/jumping jacks etc). I really enjoy my aerobics classes, but worry that I am pulling on the stoma or something. Not wearing anything too tight. Is it still healing or should that stage be over already?

Hi lacey55,

I am about a month and a half post-op, and mostly have been walking and lifting light weights for exercise.  I also felt a lot of discomfort when I tried to do a slow run--like my stoma did not like being jostled up and down...!

I was wearing really loose clothes when I was working out, but I tried once wearing a pretty tight tanktop underneath my t-shirt, to kind of hold everything in place, and for me, this really cut down on the pain/weird feeling when jogging...

I know you said you were not wearing anything too tight--maybe a tight tanktop will help you too?

lacey...give it time, ur body might not be completely healed yet. I'm not saying stop, im just saying dont thiink it will always b this way, before u know it u may find urself forgetting that little stoma-nater is even there ( ok mayb not forgetting, how about not caring and going on with life?) lol

actually i often forget that mine is there, lol.
I walk about two miles on the treadmill four times a week, more if i can get there, and do weights. I run on the treadmill some, but i am super clumsy so that doesnt' work too well. I had been jumping rope, but again, clumsy. At first my stomach hurt when i did stuff like that too. Wearing tighter clothes helps and also tuckign the bag up so that the weight of the bag doesn't pull on me helps a lot too.
