I am a new member, I had my surgery on June 23rd 2008
for the reverse ileostomy
I had diarrahea for two days after surgery, I am constipated now  and I don't know what diet I should be on. I am afraid to eat certain foods as I am concerned about blockage. Could some one tell me if this constipation is normal. My doctor said I can eat a regular diet but I am scared, could someone help me.

do you have a j-pouch?
anytime you have any type of surgery on your intestines it's best to stay away from hard to digest foods at first, things like cabbage, nuts, foods with skins, stringy meats And stick with things like mashed potatos, breads, yogurts, anything easy to digest.

Thank you summerstorm, for your reply. I don't know what is a j-pouch.
I will stick with the foods you mention. My concern is the constipation problem,

Be sure to drink lots of fluids --- many times constipation is caused from not drinking enough. And if you had diahrea the first couple of days, you may be a little dehydrated. Remember, any IV in the hospital will replace those fluids, but when you get home, you have to drink enough to replace them. I agree with Summer about the foods. Your body is probably just re- adjusting to it's new plumbing. Fluids should help along with your diet. If you are still uncomfortable, give your doc a call tomorrow.
