I don't know what your doctor told you but when I had my surgery I couldn't go to any different bags until a couple weeks after my surgery. Yes they have smaller one piece bags. I'm thinking that you proberly have on a big clear convetec bag. Thats what they usually have you wear after surgery, one of the reason is because your stoma will change sizes. It will be some time maybe a couple of weeks or so before it's the size it's going to be for good. But and I do say but instead of buying precut bags for know you could go with a smaller bag that you have to cut to size, I did. As far as a two piece being better thats up to you. Bags come in so many different styles. They have opague ones where you can't see through them, some with different material like a cloth kind of material so it won't sweat on your skin. One piece is easier to hide but with a two piece you don't have to change the whole system to go to different size bags for different reasons. The best company I think ia coloplast. You should also have an E.T nurse they know about most of the products but keep in mind they will not recommend using any of them right now that part is up to you.

When I first got my colostomy, I tried several different types, and one and two piece pouches thanks to the help of a great ET nurse.
They come in many different styles and sizes, it is ok to test drive different ones around, but stay with the cut to fit for a few months till your stoma shrinks and you find out what size it will be. Talk to your ET, get free samples from them and you can as the different companys to send you some samples.
Me I prefer the one piece drainables from convatec.
I made a cloth pouch cover for mine since it hangs down right where my belt line is, that why I am more comfortable knowing if I reach up for something my bag dont show. I came up with it since my wife can stand seeing my poo poo.
