Has anyone had to contend with a c-diff infection? What were your symptoms? How do you think you got it? How did you get over it? How do you prevent it from recurring and spreading to family members? Also please let me know if/how it changed the stoma at all also? My son has been experiencing abdominal cramping for past two weeks, a visit to ER and blood work, stool sample, discovered C-diff infection. He's on flagyl now for 10 days. White spots on his stoma, stoma has gnarled appearance, it is also always very tight, cannot even get my skinny pinky through. The most recent bout of cramping has been 2 weeks, while the stoma has been like this for 6 months.

Thank you.

Son, age 9, diagnosed with UC age 4, no relief or at best temporary relief from conventional meds, probiotics, SCD, colectomy with perm. ileostomy 2007. Diagnosed with Crohn's 3/08. Currently on Remicade, fish oil supplements, daily multivitamin, Digestive Advantage chron's colitis formula has no effect, it's like spitting in the ocean.

Hi, I am a lady with a permanent ileo, and I feel like it was due to constant c-diff infections.  It is an infection that I feel I got due to my antibiotic use.  I really do believe it.  Actually I had a GI that told me that also.  I would be treated for it and test ok, but it hides and can come back when you think you are out of the woods.  I am hoping you get many posts on this question.  I have been led to believe by my GI and colorectal surgeon an every doc I have asked, that c-diff is no longer a problem for me as I have no colon, or rectum.  I have had my ileo for 3 years now and have refused to take antibiotic for any reason since then.  I take grapefruit seed extract for ear/throat stuff, and take cranberry pills for urinary tract infections.  I feel like if I take antibiotics I will get c-diff again. I guess I don't trust what I am being told by the docs because of the things I have read on the j-pouch forums.  They battle c-diff and they don't have a colon.  So I would really be interested in feedback from this group.
