So if anyone has read in any of my posts I have a hernia. Long story short. Stoma placement - bad. Pants fit below it (and they have to unless I wore them up to my boobs) push into the flange causing it to cut into my stoma so I have a permanent laceration. Hernia is BIG for me as I only weigh 87 pounds so it looks like I am pregnant. I am 50. Bag needs to be replaced every two days. Wasn't meant to be put on a tennis ball. They did a CT scan. Surgeon calls to tell me that surgery wasn't worth it. Hmm. So I don't wear pants and just run around with a maternity smock? (um, if you know me, I am NOT a dress kind-o-gal) I was SO looking forward to having it taken care of which she said she could do. Am I just too vain??????? I miss my body! Do I buck it up? Get therapy? See another surgeon (she IS the best ... already researched that) Thanks....

It sounds like it bothers you a great deal. Just for peace-of-mind, I'd get a second opinion. What's it going to hurt?

Good luck!

ok so if she's the best she says surgery isnt worth it, does that mean that she will not perform it? isn't it up to you whether or not its worth it? I mean unless its life threatening of course....i'm just curious. So what if u think ur being vain, there's so little with our body's that we have control over...if u want it fixed and she can fix it without killing u....i say go for it....jmho

Since she thinks it's optional, then insurance won't cover it.

I would find a surgeon who says that it is necessary for you to have it taken care of. You shouldn't have to live with a large hernia like that.

i cant' see how a large hernia like that isn't dangerous, or at least unhealty. Maybe you could tell them it is causing you great mental distress?
