Hubby has had his stoma for 5 years.  He's always gotten along great with it.  It's leaked only once and he can usually go a week without a change.
For the last month, we've been fighting with a rash under the bag. It's at the edge not near the stoma.  He's allergic to metal and the rash looks just like that kind of reaction. It seeps and loosens his bag.  He absolutly refuses to go see the doctor.
Have any of you ever heard of this?  He does dry out when he goes bagless for a while.
 Thanks for your help.

Sorry to hear about the rash. Google "pyoderma gangrenosum" when you have the time. Though it is a relatively rare skin disorder, it has a high incidence among Crohn's and Colitis patients. Some here, myself included, have had this, and it often begins as a stubborn rash under your appliance. If it is PG it won't go away on it's own, but can easily be treated, especially in it's early stages. Tell your husband to stop playing the denial game and go to a good dermatologist pronto. If it is PG it's only going to get progressively worse. Good luck!

I called my surgeon's office once when I got a rash under my wafer. They prescribed Nystatin powder, and it cleared it up quickly. Hopefully, that's all he needs, so I would call the doctor's office on Monday.
Dx'd Crohn's in '99 at 28. Proctocolectomy and ileostomy in '06.
Disease-free, medicine-free, and very thankful to be healthy again :)

Definately have it checked out...I also cut out the wafer's tape around the area, if possible.
