Hi all
It has been a long journey...but we are finally going home tomorrow!!! My daughter had her TC on 6/5/08,and they connected her small intestine directly to what was left of her rectum,and then the waiting game began....no bowell sounds.NG tube in for over 2 weeks,still no bowell sounds,then bowell sounds came and no output,couldn,t eat,bloating,and vomitting...more testing,and more waiting...then on 7/9/08 we had more s/x and she got an illeostomy,which will be permanant because testing showed problems w/ what is left of her rectum,and mild problems w/ part of her small intestine...we are happy,or relived!! Finally a light at the end of tunnel :-) !! The drs said there were no promises that this would work either,so we just trusted GOD that this was his way of healing her...so we waite dagain for bowell sounds,etc...and it worked!!! She is eating and we have poop!!!! and we have gas...I know that seems crazy,but not having either thing for 11 years.and having her so sick,getting a pouch is a HUGE blessing!! She is doing great w/it all. She already emties and cleans end of bag by herself,and we have changed the pouch 3 times together. We want to try different kinds etc when we get home,but it seems to be going well so far.She just laughs and smiles every time she goes or feels the gas!! That is totally GOD...he gave her and us such a peace about this...so if I can encourage anyone facing a "pouch"...look at it as a blessing,and getting your life back!! Thanks to everyone on this site...for your advice and prayers,and the hope...those of you that have pouches have really been an encouragement to us...We will surly be asking questions about different brands etc,so we will post again soon!! yeah

I am very happy and delighted to your news about your daughter. I've been ff your stories for a while and I
honestly give my thoughts and prayers for her recovery. She is still young to enjoy what life has to offer.
Hoping she is already on her way to recovery. Just hold on and be strong always.God Bless!

I glad your daughter is doing well.  You must be so proud of her to take the pouch on like a trooper.  Did the drs. every say what has caused her to have the problems with her intestines?

so so glad all has worked out ok - what a relief - you can all now get on with living at last!
1997: Diagnosed IBS
2003: Rectocele/cystocele - Pelvic floor repair surgery;
2006: Mucosal prolapse/Obstructive Defaecation Syndrome/Slow Transit Constipation - STARR surgery;
2007: Partial volvulus (cause of ODS?) - Sigmoid resection. Result: immediate colonic inertia;
2008: Now contemplating colectomy as I need to take up to 30 senna tablets daily for some kind of bowel movement (albeit not 'normal' or all at once).  Always in discomfort/pain.
Scared to have TC as told I could become incontinent - can't get my head around the fact I might require a 'bag' :(

Hi Sugarbug,
Yes she is doing great,that is and was the grace of GOD!!! No the drs don,t know why she was born w/ all the problems w/ her intestines...that has been one of the most frustrating things for us and the drs....we don,t know why or the cause...motility problems,are like that though...Good luck on your s/x,I will keep you in my prayers!! Talk soon!!

I'm so happy your daughter is doing well! Praising God with you! :-)

Dx'd Crohn's in '99 at 28. Proctocolectomy and ileostomy in '06.
Disease-free, medicine-free, and very thankful to be healthy again :)
