Hi Everybody,  Only 5 more days until my 1st step surgery, the waiting is absolutely killing me:)  Anyways my question is, Is there anything you can think of that you wish you would have had on hand after getting out of the hospital other than bag supplies.  I want to make sure I'm prepared and I want to avoid sending my husband out to get last minute stuff if I can avoid it.  He's go so much on his plate already.  Anything you wish you'd had and didn't?  Stuff to slow output? special foods?  Etc.  Thank for all your help:)

hi there, good luck with ur surgery.

i had my first step in jan and am now ready to have my bag removed, i havn't been on this site for a while.

the first thing i can remember is drink, here in the U.K they advice to drink lucozade sport, and it does help, especaily if ur really thirsty. you will want to have alot of drinks and have lots of snacks, something you can grab when your hungry.

that's all i can remember at the moment, but really i will think about you, i had UC for 7 years and i hav never felt better, i'm so better than before that i forwarded my reversal cos i wanted to spend time with my children.

and also take the advice on rest and avoid heavy jobs nono cos it will benefit you.

P.S i got a cleaner lol. yeah

take care

Pain pills.  Bring your own.  There is nothing worse than arguing with the nurse over the need for a pain killer.

And, prior to the surgery find a wafer and bring it with you to the doctor's office.  Ask him to place the wafer in a convenient spot on your abdomen and mark the spot.  There have been countless ostomates who complain about the placement of their stomas.

Good luck.

Marshmallows! They can help slow down output when you change the wafer.

pls don't buy funny videos....after surgery, it is very difficult to laugh or even giggle. Painful. And you might build up lots of gas too.

garbage can with lid for sure is a big time help. put a plastic over it so you can easily wrap if its full.

another one is bathroom freshener. there will really be an awful smell for sure.

baby wipes with no alcohol plus, vaseline or anything for diaper rash ointment also helps.

loose clothing and underwear. For snacks...crackers will do.

Good luck. You will be in my thoughts.

bennie--

do you eat the marshmallow right before you are changing?

Diagnosed in 1999, hospitalized once.  Not responsive to meds.  Currently on 12 Asacol, , 8 ampules of Gastrocrom, 6 grams Colestid, flagyl, remicade for my UC.  Also have migraines and take B-4, B-2, for the prevention of them.
Deciding whether or not to have surgery at this time.

Good luck with your surgery! Well, someone to help with the kids would be nice!! I didn't really find I needed much except the actual supplies...and cozy jammies that don't pull at the waist.
