Is it a burning pain when you pee? I don't have an ostomy but I get similar pain when I have a bladder infection, do you think it could be that?

Hi sugarbug

I get stabbing pain also in vagina/rectum sometimes when i need or am going to the loo.   it is also something i have had for ages since being badly constipated so has nothing to do with surgery.  wonder if you consultant will know what it is?  i heard it is common in those dealing with constipation and people who dont have bowel issues can get it - it could be Proctalgia Fulax which i believe it is involuntary muscle spasms deep inside the rectum.  i have heard also it can be caused by a tight anal spincter or anal fissure which is a tear. if you search online then you might get some more information. i find a hot bath helps, but not always.

i hope you are progressing and getting well though.

1997: Diagnosed IBS
2003: Pelvic floor repair surgery
2006: STARR surgery for mucosal prolapse/Obstructive Defaecation Syndrome.  Also diagnosed with slow transit
2007: No difference. Had MRI scan showing a partial volvulus
2007: Therefore surgeon recommended a sigmoid resection which resulted in immediate colonic inertia
2008: Now contemplating colectomy as I need to take up to 30 senna tablets daily for some kind of bowel movement (albeit not 'normal' or all at once).  In discomfort/pain most days.

Scared to have TC as told I could become incontinent - but looking to have surgery before end of year hopefully

Sugarbug,

I was wondering if you could tell me how you are feeling since your surgery.  I'm scheduled for the same thing on September 22.  What's it been like for you recovery wise?

Thanks,

A~
