NG Tube is it a must?

Can somebody please tell me if a NG Tube is always required during a J-Pouch Surgery?

Is there a less painful alternative?

I don't have a J-pouch, but I haven't have one since I've had my ileo...did have them when my plumbing was intact. Will you be having an temporary ileostomy? I am sure Suebear will be along with some good info soon! Good Luck with your surgery!

i had my first of 2 j-pouch surgeries a few months ago and i didnt have an NG tube. they fed me through an IV the first day. then i was able to eat liquid food like soup for a day and after that i was eating normal food.

Ulcerative Colitis since December 2001 (age 15)
in remission for 6 months in 2002 followed by severely active disease
1st j-pouch surgery done on July 30, 2008
