I'm home now from the hospital after having my stoma revised.  How long should it take my ileum to adapt and start uptaking water and slowing down the motility, since I only lost three inches off the end?

Welcome home Jan625. I cannot really give you a time frame, I think it is different for everyone...It is always better to recover at home, isn't it! Good luck with the rest of your recovery:)

Hi Jan, I have been wondering about you, I hope your stoma revision has been beneficial for you.  I don't know if you remember me, but we posted here about octreotide injections to try to help the (too fast) motility problem associated w/ileostomy.  I gave myself the octreotide injections for 10 weeks and ended up in hospital due to dehydration.  The injections left me feeling so full I was not able to drink enough Gatorade to stay hydrated.  Needless to say, I'm no longer taking the octreotide injections.  I'm back to drinking large quantities of Gatorade and water and am "just" able to maintain hydration.  While I don't regret the elective surgery I had (proctocolectomy w/ileostomy), it has definitely opened up another can of worms, lol.  I think we have similar problems and I really hope you are doing well!!!
