I have read posts in a few threads on here about people having an allergic reaction to their appliance, barrier ring, or adhesive. For those who have, what symptoms did you experience? More specifically, were any of them *not* localized at the site of the stoma?

I ask because right now I am experiencing some extremely itchy skin on certain parts of my body (but none of them are near my stoma). I changed to a Hollister appliance with their barrier rings a couple weeks ago and that was about the time the itching set in. The only other thing I can think of is that I am in the final stages of tapering off Prednisone. I've been on some dose for the past three years and in the last couple weeks have gotten below 5mg for the first time ever. I haven't found any information online listing itchiness as a side-effect of withdrawal though.

Of course it could always be just a case of bad dry skin. The only reason I'm hesitant to believe that's it is because lotion doesn't seem to help much.

I'd bank on the Prednisone. Years ago, I had a horrible time coming off of the 5 mg. dose - flu like symptoms. I ended up cutting it in 1/2 and then eventually shaving a little off of the 1/2. But I DID IT - it just took a while.

Tis the season for the itchy skin too, but like you said, lotion should resolve that.

Most reactions I have heard of are localized around the stoma, from direct contact with product.
