You're talking about
a temporary ileostomy, the most common of which, is a loop ileostomy. Those who expect to be connected up later on usually have this type of ostomy.
Temp ileostomies are a little harder to look after than permanent ones since they're made higher up in the intestine, output is more liquidy (is there such a word?) but they are manageable :)
I have had an ileostomy for 32 years now due to UC.
