I'm five weeks post reversal and going about 12 x  a day.

Frequently I notice the surface has not only a clear reflection but also areas where it appears to have a dull surface like a mat finish on a framed photograph.  Anybody know if this is a sign of anything?

Sounds like you getting a little paranoid. Have you spoken to your doctor?

do you have city water or well water? sometimes the chemicals in city water can react with things you eat, or meds you take. When i took asacol before surgery i had weird stains in the toilet.
Anyway, since your food got completly absorbed and digested before, the chemicals and stuff in the food might not have been coming out the way they are now.
I don't think i explained that well.

i stained my toilet bowl after surgery.  i put those bleach tablets into the water reservoir to keep it whiter, but it still stained.  that lasted for about 6 months post-op.  now i've changed the toilet cause i couldn't get it clean and use no bleach whatsoever and have no staining issues ((shrugs))

Are you talking about the way it almost always looks like there is a oily film on the top of the water after you have a bm?If that is what you are talking about I would not worry about it.I had my reversal 6 months ago and it still looks like that.
Lost half of my small intestineJan.2008.Ilieostomy for 5 months then reverst in June 2008,Nerve damage to right leg, part of my right hip bone removed Jan. 2008,Cronic pain, hernia, infection in my back called discites, and depression.Gallbladder removed Nov,2008.Mother to 9 kids 7 boys 2 girls and 1 stepson.4 grandsons,9 grandaughters.4 of my grandkids I inherited from my twin sister who passed away 6 1/2 years ago from a blood clot after surgery.God has given me my life back after I almost lost it.Even though its a painful and sometimes hard road to walk I take it one step at a time and give thanks to god for every step I take.

I have to agree that the film is common for me as well. And I don't know what causes it.
