Hi!

Has anyone ever had an ulcer around their stoma? I found one right under my stoma. It's a crescent shape. I looked it up on the Convatec website to confirm what it is. Does anyone know how to get rid of one? I saw it Saturday night when I did my change. I just cleaned it real well with soap and water, wiped it with a 3m Cavilon Barrier wipe and then put an Eakin Seal over it. How long do they take to clear up? I have a hernia which may have contributed to it.

Thanks!

Sorry, not sure what that is. I have seen it in our patients but the ostomy nurse has usually taken care of it ( with what ever magic they do) and then the patient goes home.
Does your doctor know about it?
Sorry I cant help much, but just trying to brain storm with you.
Let us know how everything turns out.

Ohio43,

I've not had an "ulcer", at least I don't think I have. I have had a pretty bad raw skin situation around the stoma and to be honest, the stomahesive paste I used to use seemed to clear it up pretty quick..... but it did burn like crazy when I put it on. Maybe that stoma powder, can't think of the name of it off hand, would help as well. Is it causing any weat time issues? How close to the stoma is it? Could it have been caused by the Eakin wearing away before you changed?

Just also helping you brainstorm.... sorry I don't have THE answer.
