What would cause a white glaze or creamy looking substance to appear on my stoma?  It wipes off but eventually starts to appear again after a few days.  The doctors and stoma nurses don't have a clue.

I would have to say it's mucous as well or new skin developing??? I get it too. Mine is from having a temporary loop ileostomy. I have a distal lumen that can cause mucous.

Yeah! Ditto what Ohio said.
My surgeon explained with a loop ileostomy, the non-functioning hole (there are two) still is alive and mucous collects there and has to be expelled. Just like a rectal stump. It's still alive, so it still is doing something. It doesn't want to feel left out.

-diagnosed with severe pancolitis u/c 2002 had total colectomy 12/19/08; emergency surgery due to abscess-had to redo ileostomy and switch to left side 12/25/08; 1/29/08 found blood clot in superior mesenteric vein (prob. from inf. and surgery inflammation)
