Hi!

I'm new to this forum and to my colostomy.  I'm 8 weeks out with very little problems---short of a yeast infection around the stoma and getting used to the various wafers and adhesive issues---all is good and so much better than the life I had before. turn

I'm looking to do more physical activities involving jumping, running, etc.  So far I feel uncomfortable having my bag hanging out and my newly protuding stoma/belly area jumping about.

Does anyone have any advice for a support belt or binding system to use during active workouts.  I briefly read about someone using a tensor bandage.  I'm not super thin so thats quite a bit of bandage for me.  blush

I looked into a pouch support belt but it looks kinda clunky.

I also thought about buying a tube top and then just rolling it over my hip-waist area.

Any thoughts or advice?  Any advice is helpful.

well you are still pretty early out from surgery to do alot of jumping around i would think, lol. But i guess if you feel like it go for it!

What i do, when i run or play DDR (which is QUITE the work out) i make sure my bag stays emptied and i make sure it is tucked up relaly good in my undies. Most of the time when i play ddr i but the belly band thing on, but i dont when i go to the gym. i dont really have a lot of trouble with it coming out, if i keep it empty.
But a tube top works great too.

I figured at 6 weeks when they told me I could start doing stuff I thought that meant that too. It's funny that you said DDR---I just purchased that. I also purchased Fitness Coach Wii and was doing the jumping jacks and was like----oh this jiggling thing is a problem. Granted I only last 10 seconds---yipes am I out of shape! understandably so, but geeesh.

I also have a mini trampoline I'd like to try but after the jumping jacks I may wait a bit.

I hope the tube top thing works. I order a 2 last night.

Different subject----how do you like DDR?

What's DDR??

Have you tried wrapping an ace bandage around your mid-section? Or wearing Spanx or something along those lines?

DDR : Dance Dance Revolution :) It's a game [like Wii] that comes with a pad that you dance on---the dance steps are directed by the game. It's supposed to be a fun way to workout.

I've tried the bandage but I end up using the entire thing. If I don't use enough is just rolls up around my waist.

I didn't think of Spanx. That is a great idea.

DDR is the greatest thing except for Rock band! if i could figure out how to do both at the same time...

silverbirdie, i love playing it, and boy it is a work out like crazy! i get hotter and sweatier doing that for 10 minutes than i get from 45 minutes on the tread mill. I actually played so much that i could just barely walk, lol.
One tip though, esp if you have hard woods, get some mats to put under the pad, or else you will hurt so bad! oh but it's worth it, lol

summerstorm --- that is AWE-SOME. I think you have created a new game mix DDR w/ROCK BAND! You can call it Dance Band Revolution! Talk about coordination abilities--yipes!

I haven't opened the box yet but now you got me all excited about it!

open it NOW!!!
well i think you could sing and dance at the same time, i mean i know you could do that, but i play the drums and that would not be easy, lol esp since you have to do the foot pedal!
and that's a great name, lol.

well, see that would be the ultimate cardio game...

2 minute dancing then you quickly have to move to the drums, the game will give you 5-10 seconds to get to it, once your there you play a rocking raging drum solo for 1 minute then you quickly have to get back to the mat for another 2 minute dance. easy peezy!

or better yet the drums are in front of you---2 minute dance (leg workout), 1 minute drum solo (arm workout), etc. etc.

you guys are funny!

silverbirdie--welcome! I just empty and tucked into my undies when I work out...I use "granny panties" for that so they keep things secure. I think, like summerstorm said, keeping it less full is the trick.

SPANX is also VERY useful for an ostomate!! I've also made my own version of a tube top so it is custom to me...and surprisingly easy to make if you have a sewing machine!

I wear spandex shorts like bike shorts when I workout. I also wear briefs that are similar to Spanx.

Because I have a hernia though, I can only do the treadmill, Yoga and walking tapes. I'm not supposed to do situps, which is a real bummer.
