My mom had a bowel resection and colostomy a week ago today (Mon.).  She is still in the hospital with excessive gas pains.  They gave her Zantac (150mg) this AM and she can have it 2 x a day.  She is taking Simethicone (80mg) almost every hour like clockwork.  The pains are awful she says and we are not sure how much the Simethicone is working, but ht edocs say that is the best thing.
Any ideas to releive the gas pains?
She is up walking around and eating when the pains are not as bad.  Sometimes she feels like she can't eat or drink becasue the pain is so bad she feel like she will puke if something goes down.  When she has the bad pains she is burping and sometimes her ostomy will drain to relieve some of the pressure, but it almost constant gas pain for about 12 hours now.  She knows it is gas pain because it moves and does ease off - so it is not like a pain pain from surgery or at the incesion.

You can try placing a heating pad over the area of her stomach that is not where her stitches are. It is okay to place it around her sides and/or her back.

The warmth will relive the gas, pain and desire to puke.
