Im sure a lot of people have posted on here about this and im sorry if im repeating but Im starting to get scared about my reversal surgery...
I got my ileostomy surgery Nov.19,08 so Ive only had it for 4 months but im soo ready to get rid of it. Well, part of me is and part of me isnt lol I have a few ?s about my surgery. Oh and mines a little different of a reversal surgery than normal because when they took my large intestines out she pulled my small intestines down to create my stoma and then she connected me to my rectum. So im connected right now its just that i dont poop out of my bum. Its just like, mucus right not. So when she gets rid of my stoma, what should i expect?
Will I have a drain tube anywhere? I had an NG tube with my first surgery but that didnt bother me at all
What should I expect when I wake up?
How long did you stay in the hopital? With my first one, I stayed 8 days
What's different from the first surgery compared to this one?
Im so used to not having to run to the bathroom ten times a day. I just go empty when I want. And I just now got back to where I can run like 1/4 of a mile! :-) Which is a HUGE improvement bc I couldnt even run 10 ft a month ago! Idk why im so scared of this surgery. Now that im better and healthier I just dont know what to expect from this surgery. Please relieve me of some of my worry lol

Congratulations on your upcoming reversal!  I had mine on March 9th and returned home on March 12.  This surgery didn't take as much out of me as the one I had in Sept/08 where they placed the ileostomy.  I still have my large colon.  What I had done was a section of lg colon removed due to mesh erosion from a previous surgery (see my notes at bottom).  He then just re-sectioned and created the stoma.  When I woke up from my reversal surgery I was of course sore, but they controlled that well for me with pain medication.  I couldn't eat on the 10th....just clear fluids..they started me on soups, jello etc on the 11th.  My bowels woke up the night of the 10th and I had a couple of messes in my bed (alot of old blood and yuky stuff).  Things only started working for me once I was home.  I started incorporating foods slowly, and now I seem able to eat just about anything.  I drove my car a week after being home (to Dr to get stitches removed).  And all In all I am doing really well.  I am still quite sore at stoma site but that's to be expected I think.  As with any surgery, it takes time.  One thing I have to watch for is to not get constipated.  I did alot of reading here on the Forum, and most people have just the opposite alot of loose bm.  Go figure I would be the opposite.  I drink prune juice, and this gets things moving.  I am so happy that you are feeling well.  I'm sure you will feel just as well after your surgery, if not better...not having to deal with wafer changes, etc etc...  Although I have to admit, was so grateful for my ileostomy as it made me healthy again!!!  It was convenient on so many levels (not having to worry where restroom is, etc..) and I could pretty well control it's output etc, according to the activities I would be doing a huge meal before

I hope I answered some of the questions you may have...if not just ask more!!.....Cheryl

I have underlying connective tissue disorder (Ehlers Danloss Syndrome) which is the reason for the two failed surgeries)
