I have had crohns since 1973. Mostly alll the big D during that time. last several months was severally constipated so went to the ER on the 12 of March. Ended up having emergency surgury the next day and having a colostomy. Less than 2 weeks later I had another surgury to drain an abscess. Still have drain tube in to make sure the fistulas drain. Finally got to come home from the hospital yesterday. Such a big change to go to ER and then spend 3 and 1/2 weeks there and 2 surguries. My insides were really in  a mess.
Now I am learning to take care of my ostomy and was wondering about taking a shower with the bag off. Is that something I should wait to do later after everything has healed better. I know I will wait till drain tube is out but was wondering about after that.
Any suggestions on living with an ostomy would be appreciated. I am already kinda liking the fact that I am not having to go to the bathroom all the time with all the pain I was used to. Thanks for any info.

I waited two weeks before taking a shower without the bag. I was just not sure that it was okay, but it turned out okay. I didn't let the water hit the stoma or the incisions directly.
