It was week 6 for me before I was happy to eat at friends/family as I was very noisy at first. My mornings are still a bit noisy but at home on my own that dosent bother me.

Do you have filters on your bag to let air out? My filters last a day before they clog up.

Are you staying away from wheat? I found wheat to be a big contributer to gas so I eliminated it for 6 weeks after my surgery and the gas was diminished in that period. Read labels, wheat or gluten is in most processed foods. Switch from bread to flour tortillas or rice cakes.

dx proctitis in 1987
dx UC in 1991, was stable until 1998

1998 started prednisone, asacol, pentasa, nortriptylene, ativan, 6MP, rowasa enemas and suppositories, hydrocortisone enemas, tried the SCD diet, being a vegetarian, omega 3s, flax, pranic healing, yoga, acupuncture, probiotics

2000 lost all my B-12 stores and became anemic

2001 opted for j-pouch surgery- now living life med-free

I find ALL vents, no matter what brand, only last until I wake up in the morning. During the night, my output tends to clog the filters up. Vents seem to work better for colostomates where their output is thicker and won't clog the filter up so easily.
I have had an ileostomy for 33 years now due to UC.

I find that filters on my colostomy bag only last about 36 hours and then they seem to not work as well.

the new vents on the hollister are workign for me for a few days. But after about three days they start to like wear out and poo comes out of it soemtimes, just like the teeniest bit. If am not ready to change the bag, i just put some tape over it, sometimes a folded up piece of toilet paper and then tape that on (ya'll i am all about some tape!)
anyway, mine work after i have been awake for a while.

Bob-what are you eating? there may be something in there that you wouldnt think would cause gas. Also try some gas-x when you first get up, then about halfway through the day. And dont let yourself get hungry.

The filters on the Hollister pouches are the best ones I found...they won't work while you are lying down, but when you get up and empty they will start working again. I was getting 3 days out of them:) AND NO STICKER NEEDED WHEN SHOWERING!!!!! (sadly, the wafers didn't work for me...)

Sue is on to something with the wheat...your body might be having a hard time with it right now.
