Hey everyone. I'm in the hospital for the third day. On wednesday i woke up at 5 am to excrutiating pain in my abdomen. went to er at 10m am. make a long story short, after 5 hours in the er, a ct scan, and vomiting found out i am being admitted because i have a small bowel obstruction. fun! My surgeon told me i would NOT be needing surgery. thank god considering the fact i just had a small bowel ressection in august and then i was recconnected in october. so i just ate a little while ago after 2 days of clears and so far so good. i 've had no vommiting or pain. just hope it stays that way. anyone here had this before and can give me a little advice on what to expect. also they want me on a low reisidue diet can anyone explain to me what they eat for that. thanks.

Sorry to hear you are in the hospital.  A low residue diet usually consists of no raw fruits, veggies, salads, seeds, nuts, coconut, popcorn, stringy meats, etc. The hospital will probably give you a list of foods that you shouldn't eat, just ask.  You can also get a list if you google it.

It's really not that hard to follow and you just get used to it especially when you know what the alternative can be confused .  I've followed the diet since my subtotal last July due to diarrhea issues and the only thing that I really miss is salad and watermelon but after reading about all of the obstructions on here, I'll just stay on the diet.

I hope you feel better soon,

spleen/appendix/gall bladder  removed/endometriosis/complete hysterectomy at 29/sinus surgery/numerous allergies & asthma/chronic kidney stones/ pancreatitis 3x's/2 knee surgeries-now need replacement/shoulder surgery w/ pins-which also froze following surgery/severe adhesions & scar tissue-stomach to chest-liver to ribs-colon to pelvis/severe IBS w/ constipation/subtotal colectomy 7/08-
Am now down from 17 meds a day to 8 and VERY healthy:)
There's always hope and things will get better :)
