Hi I am hoping someone on here can tell me if the pain I am suffering around the wound of the LIR is normal and to be expected and how long before it recedes? I had my LI for nine months and reversed just over a week ago. The wound has been left open and I pack it each day and cover it until it closes from the inside out. I believe this can take up to about a month. Everything apart from the pain is going well, my bowel is behaving well for the most part but the pain around the wound is not good. I do not think there is any infection and wondering if it is the stomach muscles complaining after not being used for the last nine months and now stitched together and complaining. I dare not cough, and have to think through every move I make that involves the stomach muscle and need to roll of the bed to get up as I can not just sit up and get up from a laying position. Is this normal for a period of time as I can not find anyone else on here who is complaining of this and I am not usually a winger about pain. I am still on pain relief and with previous surgery I took myself off pain relief after a few days as I did not need it. The pain is very sharp and stops me in my tracks, the wound also bleeds a little if I have moved and caused the pain. Thanks for any replies that may help me.

Hi Cassy!  I'm sorry you are hurting. I had my ileostomy reversed on March 9th and I still have some pain around the stoma site, and mine was stitched closed.  It's not too bad at this point though, but it is very very tender.  You are still quite new out of surgery so hopefully with time it will resolve itself...Good Luck!....Cheryl

Repeat Vaginal Prolapse Surgery 2006 (the mesh from previous prolapse surgery had let go and fallen into my bowels)...
Removal of mesh from bowels (it was piercing holes all through my bowels and appendix and cecum, causing 2 fistulas and heavy bleeding vaginally and rectally)...mesh was removed, two pieces of large bowel removed and resectioned with a loop ileostomy. 2008
I have underlying connective tissue disorder (Ehlers Danloss Syndrome) which is the reason for the two failed surgeries)

Hi Roddiesgirl, Thankyou for getting back to me your reply has helped me a lot, it is good to know that what I am feeling is normal :-) You have been through a great deal yourself and I hope your health is improving. Your medical history mentioned that you had a prolapse done and that the mesh caused problems resulting in two fistulas. I also had a prolapse operation over a year ago and gained a rectovaginal fistula as a result, wish I had lived with the prolapse because this last year has been a nightmare with many operations to try to repair the fistula. The temporary loop ileostomy was done to try to give the repair a higher chance of success. I think I am now on the down hill run and wish you all the best.
