Hi guys....

So I had some sugar free/fat free ice cream today and within the hour had emptied my bag four times all full to brim of pure liquid. In the next hour after it leaked and soaked my wafer, underwear, and pants. I ate two bananas and some starches to see if this would help ( becuase of my inertia I hesitate to take immodium becuase it gives me nausea and very decreased output for days). Needless to say this was all at 1 pm and it is now 930p and I just chaged everything and it it spouting out still. I have emptied my bag probably 15 times since 1 pm and full bags. My skin is all open and stoma was bleeding. Anyone have any ideas besides immodium? This is just why I cannot get past this bag....I am having so many issues with it. Pleas help.

wow--are you sure you're not lactose intolerant? I am. Even with the lactaid pills, if I eat something like pizza, I get lots of watery output. Chocolate seems to do it too.

I had some success with codeine thickening and slowing down my output. Lately, peanut butter and bread has helped.

sorry you're going through this. cry

My guess is that it is one of the ingredients in the ice cream that caused this.  By chance was there sorbital or another fake sugar, and what was the fake fat additive?  I have on ocassions had this same experience with ice cream and only with ice cream.  I am not lactose intolerant.  I believe some formulations have an ingredient that causes me to have diarrhea.  Unfortnately the times I have experienced this phenomena have been with ice cream purchased out and there is no way to know the ingredients.  Read the label and see if you come up with anything.

I am with suebear! Anything with an artificial sweetener can cause LOTS of D! These sugars cannot be digested like regular sugar. I stay far away from anything with sorbital, nutrasweet, aspartame, etc. Good luck sweetie, hang in there. It will eventually slow down even though I know you are looking for some quick solutions.

It is a learning process, isn't it? I STILL have those learning experiences, after 25 years with an ileostomy. Chocolate and caffeine, and a lot of sugar, will do that to me in a heartbeat. But, sometimes, I just have to sit down and eat a whole bag of M&M's!!!! When I eat ice cream, I usually eat a small cone OR a banana split. The banana counteracts the liquid output.
