So, I need some advice.....

I woke up this morning after having what again seemed to be another obstruction last night. I felt very weak and nauseated. I have been dizzy and lightheaded all day at work. I work up this am and went to change my appliace. My stoma did not look right....the coloring was a light pink and it felt different. It is almost as is it is telescoping or retracting into itself. I have been noticing this lately. I was in the ER with the pineapple obstruction last weekend and swollen stoma. I have had to change my bag every other to every third day d/t leaking. I still have some decent skin irritation. I just really feel crappy and I hate to call my surgeon if I do not need too. I just wondered what you all thought. I spoke with the ostomy nurse and I am to see her Wednesday and she was worried I may be dehydrated. I just feel weak and dizzy and slightly nauseated. This has not improved with gatorade and the little soup I had for lunch. I do not have a huge appetite today at all. PLease help if you have any advice.

Your symptoms do sound a lot more like dehydration than an obstruction. Sometimes it can be hard to stay up on fluids. You might need to go to the hospital for IV fluids. Once you get properly hydrated eat salty snacks in order for the salt to retain fluids and find a better hydrating beverage than Gatorade. Gatorade is mostly sugar and not the best for people without colons.
