25 years ago over the 4th of July I had my final surgery for my Crohn's Disease, my ileostomy was born. The beginning of the new me. I still remember that surgery like it was yesterday. I knew that it would be life changing; and it sure has. Much better than I could have every thought it could be. When I finally gave in to have the surgery, I knew that I would be having an ileostomy for the rest of my life. I was so scared at the time, but now I know that life has been so much better for me - no meds, no pain, I can eat well and enjoy it, travel, whatever I WANT to do with very few limitations - except camping....I don't do outhouses!!! (Sorry)

Hope you all had a great 4th of July. And a great summer so far. What are some of your plans?

CONGRATULATIONS PEGGY!!!!!
It's so great to hear success stories and to know that there are people that have good long-term results. You've been such an inspiration to the rest of us!
As for summer plans, I'm just planning on letting my body heal from all of the kidney issues and the c diff so that I will be able to go back to work in the fall. My daughter is home visiting us from Mrytle Beach for the week so we are enjoying having our two girls home with us smile I know most people can't wait until the kids are gone on their own but we aren't to that point yet, though we did have 2 mos without either of them and it gave us a taste of what it's going to be like - it was kind of nice . I'm also looking forward to celebrating my 1 year birthday to the new ME on the 17th of this month.
I hope you have a healthy, enjoyable summer!
Blessings and peace,
Judy

Whoo Whoo for PEGGY!!!!  smilewinkgrin

Happy NEW YOU BIRTHDAY!!!!

I was just telling my husband that February 6th is just as important as any other birthday in my life.  It's like when you tell someone how old your infant it by the months, that's how I've been doing it with Penelope and my UC Free lifestyle!  I'm five months healthy!!!!

I cannot wait to hit the 25 year mark!  I know it's going to be great, and hearing your story about how wonderful it has been for you is WONDERFUL!!!!!

My family and I are traveling to Colorado the first week of August.  We're staying in the same cabin from our childhood and this is the first time we're all brining our families out there.  Hence my husband, son, sister-in-law, nephew, brother-in-law, nieces...the list goes on!  I am a little nervous traveling with Penelope but I know it'll all be okay.

I'm SO HAPPY to hear you've had a nice summer thus far, and that you're new you is 25 years old!!!

Just thinking about the time .. 25 years, well, that means that I have lived longer WITH this ileo than WITHOUT it. I never thought that day would happen!!!! W o W!!!!
Thanks for all the great comments... wishing you all the best of health and success for any of those contemplating or recently gone thru this surgery. It is possible to live a healthy, active, normal life. Yeh, we all can have little bumps along the way, but they are short-lived when you look at the big picture.
Yea --- I agree, WOOOOO HOOOOOOO for me!!!

Congratulations, Peggy!! Any plans to celebrate?

My summer trip is to go swimming with the dolphins at Discovery Cove in Orlando with my sister and her daughter. I've always wanted to do that and figured there's no time like the present! It's definitely a trip I could not have done pre-surgery with active Crohn's. I love my ileostomy!! smilewinkgrin

Happy birthday Peggy and stoma! Bratcat just had the one year anniversary of her step 1 surgery (July 3). What a glorious reason to celebrate!

Thank you all for the nice comments. I have just been eating anything and everything I want WHENEVER I want!!! Watching the grocery bill this month is futile!! But it is only the 2 of us, so what the heck!!! We pretty much eat whatever we want anyway, within reason.

As far as plans - We have a lot of visitors coming to see us this month (friend of ours from OH; then In-laws, then a group going to the Brickyard race with us). We hope to plan a trip to Utah maybe in August, but my DH's health and ability to walk is deteriorating very quickly. We may end up driving so that we have his power chair for him to use.... we'll see. I will be the driver and it's a long way to UT from IN!!!!
