GI wants a small bowel series. What can I expect with the bag. Will it be an absolute mess? I'm a fast follow-through. HATE drinking the contrast. I think I heard ileostomates are allowed to drink water up to the procedure, yes? any advice would be appreciated.

Put on a big bag, because it will go through VERY fast! Empty as often as you can. And try to sit when you empty, because it will be total liquid and come out fast. Lots of splash. I would aim it toward the side of the bowl.
Drink the contrast with a straw, so you can put the straw at the back of your throat and not have to taste it as much. and drink FAST.
I don't know for sure, but i doubt the Dr. will let you drink water up to the procedure.

Good Luck. Let us know how it turns out!

coumadin, prenatal vit.
(temporary ileostomy....maybe)

you could put a bunch of the gel tabs in your bag that would thicken it up but that is hard to get out sometimes

Doesn't SBFT have the chaulky contrast? Isn't that the one that comes out thicker? I haven't had one since I've had an ileo, but that what I thought my friend said...but we all know everyone IS DIFFERENT!!!

Sammies, I am sorry you have to go through this, I'll keep my fingers crossed that you get an answer to your problems.

I'd ask the Doc about the water thing...you don't want to drink all that contrast to find out the water screwed up the test!!
