Hi all, yep its true the worst night i've ever had. It was not due to output but constantly itching and stinging when i first changed it it was really red and sore round the hole (it is retracted) so i cleaned it put the stoma powder on which (stung like hell) and the barrier spray then the paste ring then bag went back to bed within minutes it was itching and stinging again and this went on all night the skin had got to the stage that nothing would stick to it on the last go i had to sleep with my hand pushed against the bag to keep it on. What can i do if this happens again? what do you do when the skin goes like that and nothing sticks? i would be really grateful for any advise thanks so much, from a very tired ostomate Bev x

Oh no, that's terrible! My heart goes out to you. I had to stop using Eakin Seals, because they made my skin itch. I suggest not using anything on your skin, except maybe some stomahesive paste, and see if that helps. A little bit of Calmoseptine Ointment on the areas that are inflamed might help, too. I would call your surgeon's office or ostomy nurse and tell them what's going on. Hopefully, they can help you.

Since your stoma is retracted, you need to be using a Convex wafer. Good luck, and please keep us posted!

Check into the convex wafer, I had some nights like that. Once I switched to the convex wafer I didn't have any problems!

I feel for you....this has been an all to common situation for me. The burning and itching is so horrible. I have changed mine three times today and like your, mine is retracted below skin level (esp when laying down). The convex wafer would be your nect step. I have tried four different kind, but noine have been successful for me. Have you visited with your ostomy nurses or tried an ostomy belt. The last brand they tried was a Marlen and it heloed, but I still have leaking every 4 hrs or less. I goes as long as I can without changing, but its gets to the point where my skin is so excoriated I have no choice. I have been going through a month supplies in 2 weeks. I just found out Fri they are moving my reversal forward for this reason. I do not know if this is an option for you, but my surgeon does not think my skin can go until November.

I hope you can find something that works. You definately need to try convexity. Wishing you well.
