I had my reversal surgery 9 days ago and now I LIVE on the toliet.  I feel the need to 'go' every few minutes but most of the time nothing comes out...just lots of pressure.  Maybe my rectum is adjusting to be used again since I have been on a bag for 2 years...I don't know.  All I know is that I cannot leave my home.  I literally run to the toliet every 5-10 minutes.  Last night I brought my pillow to the bathroom, placed it on my knees, and slept on the toliet for about 3 hours.  My diet is small...I eat 1 banana everyday at that's it.  I am not hungry yet.  Tonight I forced myself to eat a 1/2 cup gluten-free pasta for dinner.
I would love to get some feed back.. tongue

Amey, I have been wondering how you were doing. I read all of the old posts and actually felt like I knew all of you. It is good to see you back.

I read on the other post that your doctor removed some of your rectum. Why was that? I wonder if this could be your problem???

I think you need to try to eat more. I have read that not eating enough can cause painful gas. Not sure what is up with the urgency though...

Have you tried eating the BRAT diet? Bananas, rice, applesauce, and toast. That is what they told me to feed my kids when they had diarrhea. Also, what about a fiber drink? Konsyl is the best, but it kind-of lumps up when you try to mix it up. I am sorry I don't have anymore advice for you...I still have my colon, my extreme constipation, basically my same problems that I have been griping about for the past year on here. I just wanted you to know that I am thinking of you and wish I had some more advice for you.

i had my colon removed on Aug 16 of this yr. at first i had liqiudy bms no matter what i ate, but soon enough all that changed and i noticed that when i eat foods that thicken the stools, those really stop me up, i mean like you, i got the urges but nothing would come out.

so i decided to go on a soft-liqiud diet and it seems to help with the bms. i have liqiudy-soft bms again, not much at a time, but at least things are flowing better now. if i eat bananas or pasta (even gluten free) or peanut butter i'd get urges w/o much outcome if any.

my diet is: eggs, tuna, peeled and cooked carrots and zuccini (i put them in a blender), peeled and cooked peaches and lots of sherbet.
i hope this helps.

O Amey! How i sympathise with you. I have done the same - had to make myself comfortable in the loo as that was where I spent most of my time. 'bearing down' with no result. Going to the loo up to 14 times a day. Sweating and listless throughout. Never getting a good night's sleep either. I had my reversal done 2 half years ago and it's only just settling down. I went from 8st. to 5.5 and its only now that i'm putting on some weight. I used to watch everything I ate and be so sensible. Just lately I have been eating everything and anything as even when I watched what I ate, the result was still bad. So now I thought SOD IT! and eat anything I want now and for some strange reason I feel better than I have in a long time, resulting in much tighter bowel movements. I must remind you to not get dehydrated and by the same token - remember that our bodies need some salt in order not to feel listless and irritable. GOOD LUCK MY DEAR. It's early days yet but you'll get there. x yeah

I hope I'm posting this in the right area.  I came on the site today to look for others that experience butt burn.  I was so pleased to see so many people jumping in with ideas and advice.  Sometimes this being colon free can seem a loney existence.

-for those of you who are experiencing constant urges to go to the bathroom no matter how little or much you eat.  I have found what I call my miracle.  I insert about a teaspoon of liquid 2% viscous lidocaine into my rectum.  It numbs the pain and stops my sphincter muscle from constantly telling me to go the bathroom only to have little or nothing come out. Sometimes just gas.  I am able to get anywhere from 3 to 5 hours of sleep.  Of course, if I eat anything heavy within a couple of hours of going to sleep - I'm still going to get the urge to go because my pouch fills up with liquid or bm material and I still get up to go.  But I go right back to bed and still have hours before my next trip.

My surgeon was surprised when I asked for this method of pain and bm control but he is happy I found something that works and prescribes it for me.

I hope this helps!

I am 35 years old.
