Yep, thats way too soon. I was overzelous after my colectomy. I went back to work about 4 weeks after the surgery, and after 2 incomplete days I knew I couldnt hack it. My boss told me to go back to my doctor, and my doctor told me to be off for another 4 weeks. Yesterday was my first day back, and I feel great. No doubt I needed the extra time.

Im a 31 year old male. Generally Im in good health, but was in relatively poor health at the time of surgery due to extreme Ulcerative Colitis, which caused a perforated colon.

Hope that helps. Keep your chin up. Recovery is slow, but your life is going to get better.

Oh yes. My muscles completely atrophied. When I left the hospital I had to use a cane to get around for about a week. I slept all the time. It was very hard to get around. Every week though was a marked improvement over the previous. It wasnt until about 6 weeks in that I was able to stay up an entire day.

Wow you had a much harder time than I am having,I wasent sick when I had my surgery though. I had been having attacks of diverticulites for a year prior..It has been 13 days since my surgery and today my only issue is lack of energy..I stay up all day and I actually went for a walk today..How long has it been since your surgery, and are you doing well now

You did just have MAJOR surgery, so take it easy...usually 6-8 weeks until you go back to work and it could take up to a full year before you feel 'back to normal'

Are you remove the entire colon, I have severe constipation, thinking remove the colon, but the laxative is not working anymore, I am afraid I can't do it. Are you in open surgery or lab. surgery ?
How's your feeling now ?

Hi bombay,

I had my colectomy on Oct 5 so today is 3 weeks for me. I am feeling better, but not nearly better enough to go back to work! I am also low on energy. The last few days have been a lot better but I still sleep all the time- the pain meds make you very tired, don't forget. Take your time to get better- work will always be there...
