My husband and I have been checking Ostomy Belts on the internet.  There are TONS of them out there - all a little different.

If you use an Ostomy Belt, do you have any suggestions on
--Brand Name
--Type or Style
that you have found to be the best?

Thanks for your help!

my WOC Nurses all say the Hollister ones are better...more comfortable...so thats what I used post surgery. The tabs are a little different for each company but they worked with my Convatec wafer:)

BetterHalf What type of bag does your husband wear?

He uses a two-piece Hollister brand.  It has a small round spigot (I guess you'd call it that.) at the bottom that he uses to empty it.

I use a Nuhope ostomy belt. I had to go to the hospital and be fitted for one. Then Edgepark took over from there. I always wear one because I feel more secure with the belt. Plus the belt pulls in my stomach some.

I tried using a belt when I first had surgery back in '89 and HATED IT!!!  Like many here, I had a lot of leaks in the beginning and thought using a belt would help.  It didn't!  Either I got better at changing my appliance, or my body took a while to adapt to having an appliance...whatever the answer, I haven't had a leak in almost 20 years!!  If using a belt acts as your own security blanket, so be it.   They might have been more useful 50 years ago, I wouldn't know.  But, given everything that's available (Eakins Seals, paste, convex inserts, etc....) I think you should all burn your ostomy belts at once!!!

I didn't use an ostomy belt at first, didn't think it was necessary.  Now since I've been home and I'm more active I wear it all the time and only have one.  I'm going to get another tomorrow.  At least my wafer and bag don't slide down to my knees or ankles when I have the belt on and have a leak.  The mess is more contained around the stoma area.  I use the convatec.  I've had my stoma since the end of June and I use an Eakin seal, paste and convex wafer + belt and I still leak but not as much as it had been.
