with crohns you usually get a permanent ileotsomy (cant spell today, lol) but you would feel much better afterwards! I didnt have crohns, i had UC, but alot of the people on here with crohns are med free now.
good luck
UC for 8 years, before finally kicking its butt and having a permanent ileostomy April 17 2007!

becellea74--sorry to hear the meds are not working shakehead I've been there! I, too, had to have some resections of the small intestine AND rectal's like a double whammy! I had a temporary ileo for almost 10 years and that did help keep the fistulas quiet but eventually, for me, the meds stopped working. It was at that point that I had a proctocolectomy...colon and rectum were removed...and I have been very thankful that things are going well. Now, I decided to have this surgery because my small intestine hadn't bothered me for about the same time as the ileo and I felt comfortable that things would be okay. Since, for Crohn's, surgery is not a cure, there is a small chance that **knock on wood** I could have issues, but I BELIEVE that I will be okay!!

How long has it been since you had a resection? Quality of life is very important and I believe that we have to weigh the pros and cons and do the right thing for us...I missed many years of my daughter's life with illness and have been making up for it ever since, but she doesn't mind!!

I hope you are able to get back to life...there are many of us with similar stories who'd be glad to answer any specific questions!
