October 17th marked two years on the bag.

It was a salvation when I had my Ilestomy, as basically UC had destroyed my colon and my GI had reached the end of the medical treatment. Took 6 months afterward to get off the steorids, and I'd say a year to get the 'hang' of putting the bag on.

Pretty much now every 4 days like clockwork.. off one goes and another one goes on. Have the entire procedure down now to about 15 minutes. given some time to let the seal set against my stomach....

Going to celebrate with a long weekend at the Beach.. No, not going to go in the water. haven't got swimming down yet and I like to keep the bag dry.. It's an all day drive from Atlanta to Myrtle Beach.. Just will make sure I change the bag the morning before I leave to make sure i don't run into a problem driving on the road. Have noticed that seat belts tend to rub against the bag and cause the adhesive to fail after a long trip..

Yes, I have a J-Pouch but haven't had it connected yet. Had a Stapf infection after the Ilestomy 2 years ago that put me in a nursing home for six weeks till I got my strength back to walk. Horrid place. a real sh-hole. Still took another year after that to get the blood blister healed that wound up on my right heel afterward from the poor care I received at the Nursing home..

But then, in September 2007, I looked like death warmed over from the constant dehydration and I could barley do anything with the UC.. except poop all over the place uncontrollably and couldn't get to the bathroom half the time.

But that was in 2007 and this is 2009 and all is working fine....

Maybe next year I'll get the J-Pouch connected. Maybe I won't. Right now the poop goes in the bag and I have control over things. I'm not sure I want to go through another 'adjustment' period with the J-pouch and have a poopy mess from not controlling what comes out from the pouch... It's not going to be that I block up a toilet again ..

Also tomorrow .. November 4th is my birthday.. Made it to another one and looking forwards to a bunch more..

Thank you for reading my vents. This is a place I can just let my thoughts flow .. knowing that people reading them understand what we all share.. and Live.. which is the most important thing... Because life DOES go on.. a little different than before. and each day is a blessing ....

Happy Birthday and Anniversary, Wade!

I hope you have a wonderful trip to the beach. You should go swimming! Who cares if you have to put on a new wafer when you get back to the hotel. It would be so liberating to just run down the beach and jump into the ocean! You might be surprised that your wafer will hold. Mine always does during and after swimming.

You have a really great attitude, especially after all you've been through. I agree that every day is a blessing. :-)

Dx'd Crohn's in '99 at age 28. Proctocolectomy and ileostomy in '06.
Disease-free and medicine-free since surgery and very thankful to be healthy again.
