My names Dawn. After years of constipation and a perforated bowel aged 7,I finally had a total colectomy and ileorectal anastomosis about 13 years ago. That surgery did not go well as the anastomosis leaked and I was in hospital for 3 month, being parenterally fed, waiting for my bowel to start working. It did eventually.
Nowadays,I ususally have anything from 3 to 10+ BM a day. I'm suposed to stay off the usual stuff, tomato skins etc and usually do but generally dont have a problem if I dont!
I can tell when things are starting to go wrong with my bowel........belly ache, full bloated feeling and no BM. Yesterday I started with the pain at 5pm and it just got worse. No BM since first thing in the morning and I usually would have had several by that time of the day. I was hungry so ate a light dinner, big mistake. At about 1am,still no BM and I started throwing up. This carried on til about 4am,when I eventually had a BM then the gurgling in my belly appeared. This lets me know all systems are go again. Ive taken it steady today, soup etc until I feel completely right.
What I cant understand is that I did not eat any wrong foods which usually start this off. All low fibre the day before. Do any of you get this kind of thing not connected with food?
Speaking to Dr's over the years,if I went to hospital,it would be case of "drip & suck" (IV & NG) until the bowel settles so Ive always tended to go nil by mouth at home and pray it rectifies which it always has, even if its taken 2-3 days.
