I am looking down the barrel of illistomy surgery within the next few weeks. I have had colon cancer and most of my colon removed in 2005. Colitis is now tearing up whats left and I am tired of this mess! I see my doc tommorrow for options.
I had a temporary illistomy (6 months ) while was healing from the first surgery and used Convatec products. I am just curouis what supplies and supplier you use and why?
Is cost a major consideration? or quality and ease of use more important?

it really depends on the person. My insurance pays for it, so i dont look at the cost. But i use edgepark, i do have to use who they say is ok to use. I use hollister newimage. thats what the ET recommened and it works so i stay with it, why try something else if what im wearing works?
i like the two piece because i didnt want a one piece that i would have to change the whole thing if the bag had a problem. The ones theysent me home with from the hospital had a clip and i didnt like that at all! so this is the lock and roll.

It's really a personal choice, IMHO. I've tried them all, but, I've been using Convatec 2 piece for over 20 years!! As I said, It's really a personal choice.

None of the above - at least not as the major consideration.  What matters most is that the product you use suits your skin type and doesn't cause allergies, skin problems, leaks, etc.  Since everyone is different, no one can actually recommend a 'best' product because what is best for them might not be best for you.  You really need to experiment by getting samples from all the manufacturers and trying them out.
Good luck.

I use the Convatec two piece moldable with an eakin seal and stomahesive. I have tried Hollister but everytime I try it I leak quick sooo I'm gonna quit screwing around with it. Yesterday "Privey" and I had a bad day with 2 leaks which hasn't happened in a long time. She was gassy and talked and spit and spattered all day. I ended up catching a leak before it got too bad around 2 ish and I used the Hollister paste that I had purchased off of ebay to try. By 7 pm "Privey" was leaking again and I changed her again, I cal the wafer her undies and the pouch her new dress and she made a mess of both yesterday. Needless to say I went back convatec again @ 7 and we are still holding but she is really noisey and acting a fool today too...

I used to weigh a bunch and I mean a bunch I was a very very big girl. I have now lost down to about 110 lbs and I have a bunch of redundant skin and I mean a bunch and I believe that is why I need the eakin seal and the paste

I agree it is definitely a personal choice and unique per individual.  I did call and ask for samples from every company and I loved the Convtec two-piece for awhile.  However, as time went on I learned that for me and my lifestyle the Hollister 88300 (1-piece) is perfect when paired with the Coloplast Eakin Seal...oh and not to forget the ever so wonderful Hollister M9 odor eliminating drops!
Good Luck to you!

new ostomate here, diagnosed with sigmoid volvulus in ER, had almost 4 extra feet of colon, looped and twisted, emergency surgery with colostomy 2/6, will have reversal in June, I have tried all the samples they gave me and ordered my hands down fav. coloplast sensura click. Large opening, really secure rubbery end with plenty of velcro and well sealing and fitting wafer. Things may change over time, but I am pleased as punch with this one.
Blessings all, so glad you are here!
