Hi, well as most of you know I had a total colectomy and have a J-Pouch inside...well everything has been going wonderful till last week.  I got so tired of chicken and turkey, so one night, I had a sm. salad, just lettuce, and had another one the next day, then the day after that I had a larger but still small salad the next night.

Since then I have had so much trapped gas up high and not having my usual bms at all.   I am so cramped up like a tight ball on the left side of my abdomen and the knotted up ball will not go away.   I know that the air must be keeping my bowels from moving, I have gone a tiny bit but have not emptied since a week ago.  What do I do?  I know I will never have salad again but should I be worried or will it just work itself out????  My whole body is constantly shakeing and cannot relax,  wondering if I have a obstruction ???  Or I need to know some how to get that gas to move out,  I do not want to go to the ER cuz always afraid of what they might say.  So to be perfectly honest, I am hopeing that it will pass and be like it was before.  My doc is back in the office tomorrow so cant call him till then...

So kind of freaking out at the moment, because someone told me on here not to eat salad, oh boy did I.  I dont know why I didn't listen, guess I was bored with the bland food....hope someone can help me.....please...God, everything was going so good..

Leslie~I don't know about j-pouches, but if I hadn't 'gone' for that long, I'd be in the ER. It sounds like you have a blockage that hasn't taken care of itself.

You don't want to risk a perforation or damage to your pouch, so don't wait too long, if it hasn't passed in a week...be careful!

This does not sound like an obstruction; it certainly wouldn't last for a week. Maybe a stricture?
I agree, a call to the doctor is a must.

Leslie, I have not had a total colectomy yet. I am the one that has a severe outlet problem and colonic inertia. My doctor does not recommend I have a total colectomy until the outlet problem is resolved. So, June 21, I am having surgery. I have been diagnosed with rectal intussusception, anismus, and a rectecele....plus, the colonic inertia, of course. My doctor is going to remove the intussuscepted part of the rectum, remove the sigmoid colon, do a rectopexy, and hook me up to a temporary ileostomy, a bag. I have not agreed to a total colectomy yet!

Didn't you have an abnormal defogram? I was just wondering if it could be an outlet problem? Have you taken any miralax? Because Janie takes miralax and it helps her to go more at a time. I am not sure about eating salads??? Maybe it is too soon. If I were you, I would take some miralax and drink only liquids until this works itself out.
