I'm pretty sure I had my first obstruction early this morning and boy was it painful. I thought I was going to die. I'm seven weeks out from surgery 1 and was feeling great. Apparently, I didn't chew something enough or I ate something I shouldn't have because I woke up at 3 a.m. in intense pain. I had zero output - which is very unusual for me during the night. I usually set my alarm to wake up every three hours because of the high output. To make matters worse, we went out to eat the night before I had several diet cokes so I had all of this gas trapped inside my body that apparently couldn't get out. The pain was almost unbearable. I was awake until 7 a.m. and during that time I massaged the area, tried a ton of different positions to try to work it out and used a heating pad. Something must have worked because several hours later I heard my stoma make the loudest noise and I've never been so happy to hear it. Went to the movies today and I was so tempted to eat some of my kids' popcorn but last night's memory is still to alive.

Scrap Girl~sorry to hear that happend!! Some swear by Grape Juice to clear a partial/sbo...I prefer Ginger Ale, it's worked one the few occasions I wasn't sure what was happening:)

Glad you are feeling better!

Scrap Girl,

Lots of HOT TEA and Grape juice and walking after trying the knee to chest position. I had an obstruction on mashed potato twice while onboard a cruise ship out in the middle of the ocean. Glad they both cleared. No more mashed potato for me. Glad yours cleared. Rosemary

Scrap Girl ... what kind of pain was it? Were you running any fevers or vomiting? Pressure at the stoma region. I am just trying to figure out what the hell is going on with me. Sounds a little similar although your situation sounded a little worse. Glad you are feeling better. I was never one to really think about chewing. I always just swallowed my food like a wild animal.

My pain was mainly the sharp, gas pains. They were like every five seconds. I was push on different areas and a number of them hurt. I did feel like maybe I could throw up but it might have been from the pain? I was really close to going to the hospital. I think you are suppose to chew your food pretty well to lessen the chance of getting a blockage. You might want to rethink your "wild animal" approach in the future. wink
